In this post, we’re going to take a look at running sets from a 1–4 High Set.

Before I share the sets, here are a few thoughts/ideas about the 1–4 High Offense:

  • I’ve seen some teams on the high school level run their ENTIRE man-to-man offense from this alignment. Some will run various sets out of the offense and some would run the offense based on a trigger (if the point guard throws to the elbow…we run a particular set automatically; if the point guard passes to the wing, we run another set automatically, etc.)
  • Some of the more common actions you’ll see with the 1–4 High include “Iverson Cuts”, backdoor options, and ballscreens
  • The players all being positioned around the free throw line extended opens up opportunities to get cuts at the rim (thus, the backdoor actions)
  • Plays from this set can be GREAT for “after timeout situations” or at the end of the clock — especially if you don’t run them too often during the flow of the game

Let’s take a look at 10 sets you could implement with your team!

  • 34 Overload
  • Check
  • Iverson Rip
  • Iverson Spain
  • NC State Iverson Empty Post BS
  • NC State Zipper BS
  • Slice/Continuity Slice

Until next time!
